What's Happening: Spring 2021 Vineyard Update

While Auckland has been in lockdown again, the Obsidian Vineyard has been coming to life with our staff managing the vineyard as an essential service. Pruning was completed by September, in time for the spring season! Budburst hit the Chardonnay in late August following the continuing trend of early budburst for Waiheke Island. We are eagerly watching the growth in the vineyard and the spring rains have been keeping us busy with mowing, spraying and the beginning of canopy management.
This is a very exciting time of the year and the potential for the 2022 vintage is paired with seeing how the 2021 wines are developing in the winery. The red wines have completed malolactic fermentation and are aging patiently in barrels, and the white wines will be tasted and blended in the next few months.
