What's Happening: Obsidian's New Website and Vineyard Update

We’re thrilled to announce that our new and refreshed website is now live and ready to use. The updated website includes a fabulous new design, alterations to navigation, and an overall improved interface. We’re also regularly updating the blog, so you can stay up to date with all things Obsidian.
The drop down menu makes it easy to order your wines online, look for your local retailer, check out our cellar door details and find out about our fantastic Wine Club. There’s a whole host of smaller but equally as impactful changes, all to make your experience of the Obsidian website that much better for you.

We hope you like the changes, and if you have any feedback, please let us know on Facebook or by emailing alex@obsidian.co.nz

What a start to the season! From the beginning the weather was incredibly promising, with the flowering conditions being settled and warm, and the early stages of ripening coming in very hot and dry. As a result, the viticultural timeline advanced considerably and the fruit approached veraison much more rapidly than in previous seasons. Not only that, but the fruit has been beautifully healthy and hardy – following a patch of high winds in early January the canopies in certain parts of the vineyard suffered some surface salt damage and yet the plants rebounded incredibly well with minimal intervention.

With the advancement of Cyclone Gita over the past few days we are keeping a watchful eye on the fruit and preparing by undertaking constant sampling and ensuring the vines are safe from disease. We are expecting the weather to dry up throughout the next week so that ripening can continue uninterrupted.

Due to the early veraison and the promise of many more warm, dry days ahead, the nets have gone up over the vines to protect the fruit from the birds and as such we can expect a fantastic harvest of pristine, well-ripened fruit for the 2018 vintage.
